Gangtey Trek ( 8 Days)

Gangtey Trek is another option for average trekkers, it goes up to the elevation of 11,200ft and passes through the isolated villages of beautiful Phobjikha valley. Phobjikha at 10,000 ft is the winter home of endangered back necked cranes, and one of the few glacial valleys in Bhutan. This moderate trek visits the village of Gogona and Khotokha, passing through meadows and fields, forests of juniper, magnolia and rhododendrons in full bloom in April.

Season: March to May, September to November.

Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive Paro

On arrival at Paro Airport, you will be welcomed by the staff of Mysterious Bhutan Tours and Adventures, and drive you to Thimphu the capital city of Bhutan. Night at hotel in Thimphu.

Day 02: Thimphu to Gangtey

After breakfast, morning sightseeing and visiting the National memorial Chorten, Buddha statue, Tashichhodzong, National library, Sangaygang and time permits, visit the National painting school (Zorig Chusum).

After lunch, drive to Gangtey en route Dochula pass (3,088m), via Wangduephodrang. Overnight at Camp at Gangtey Gompa.

Day 03: Gangtey Gompa – Gogona (15km)

From today the trek starts from here. The trek passes through meadows and fields, gradually ascending to Tsele-la (3400m). The trail gradually descends through bamboo, junipers and rhododendrons and reach Gogona village. Night at the camp.

Day 04: Gogona – Khotokha(16km)

The trails takes you through forest of oak, rhododendrons, cypress, junipers and after a gradual climb takes up to Shobjula (3,400m).  The path continues down to the valley of Khotokha. Overnight at camp.

Day 05: Khotokha – Chazam (12km)

A short climb takes to a pass and then descends steeply through forest and finally reaches the bridge at Chazam. The trek winds up here and overnight at hotel in Wangduephodrang.

Day 06: Wangduephodrang – Thimphu

After visiting Wangduephodrang Dzong(fortress), you will be driven to Punakha valley. Visit Punakha Dzong and drive back to Thimphu. If time permits, you will be able to visit Folk Heritage, National Textile museum, Handicraft Emporium and Thimphu market. Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.

Day 07 Thimphu – Paro

After breakfast, drive to visit Simtokha Dzong, and continues to Paro. At Paro, visit National Museum, Rinpung Dzong, Kyichu Lhakhang(temple) and Drugyal Dzong, which is in ruin. Night at hotel in Paro.

Day 08: Depart Paro

After breakfast, drive to the Airport for onward destination, and soon fly out of the Land of Thunder Dragon, Bhutan.
