Bhutan Transportation
Only in 1964, the road construction into Bhutan was begun and now the mountainous country is reached far and wide with the endless winding but narrow roads. Even the interior part of the country is accessed by the roads. To further boost the transport system in the kingdom, the only single runway airfield was constructed in 1984 at Paro, about 45 minutes drive from the Capital Thimphu. Now Bhutan is also connected with rest of the world by air services.

Travelling by Land
The border town of Phuentsoling in the south is the only land border access open for international tourists as of now. This town lies approximately 170 km east of the Indian national airport Bagdogra and 175 km to the capital city of Bhutan Thimphu. From here to reach the capital of Bhutan, you have to travel about six hours depending on the weather and road conditions. You will be excited as you climb uphill with the endless winding roads, occasionally presented with unbelievable beauty of the untouched nature as you pass through the daring cliff and mountain rocks.
If you have plan to enter overland, then you are required to obtain Indian Visa because you will be entering Bhutan through Indian State of West Bengal.
